RIA News

Russian scientists have created their own vaccine against polio, said the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova. The drug is undergoing clinical trials.

"We hope that in the near future it will be brought to the Russian market. <...> Now we have almost all the vaccines that are purchased for federal money to ensure the national calendar are domestic, with the exception of the inactivated polio vaccine," Popova told RIA Novosti.

According to her, Russian scientists also face the task of creating vaccines that protect against several infections at once.

"We have a great historical experience in creating such vaccines – there is a vaccine against diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus, it has been used in Russia for a very long time and gives excellent results," the agency interlocutor explained.

In addition, as Popova said, the Russian measles vaccine, which is being used now, gives very good immunity, as a result, today Russia has the lowest incidence of measles.
