Results of the Innovation Convention

The All-Russian Innovation Convention outlined the main trends
in science and breakthrough technologies

Expert OnlineOn December 5, 2013, the All-Russian Innovation Convention was held at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University.

The convention was attended by more than 800 technology entrepreneurs, young scientists, leaders of startup projects, reputable Russian and foreign representatives of the scientific community, development institutes; heads of scientific and technological centers and business incubators; futurologists; representatives of federal authorities; heads of major Russian technical universities.

Opening the meeting, the head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs Sergey Belokonev spoke about plans to involve young scientists in the development and commercialization of innovative projects in demand by the market. "More than a billion rubles will be sent to universities next year in order to create additional conditions for the active work of scientific communities," he said.

At the plenary sessions and sections of the convention, the participants, together with experts, identified current trends in science and the technological world, discussed the features of broadcasting discoveries in fundamental and applied science, the possibilities of the latest biomedical technologies and robotics. The discussions were attended by Mark Bunger (Lux Research, USA), Igor Agamirzyan (JSC RVC), Sergey Chvalun (Kurchatov Institute), Dmitry Ovchinnikov (Selecta Rus), Alexander Poletaev (IC Immunculus), Nigel Ekland (Great Britain), Vladimir Bely (Alpha Smart Systems), Giorgio Metta (iCub, Italy); Francesco Ferro (PAL Robotics, Spain), Al and Laura Rice (USA) and others.

A special feature of the convention in 2013 was the unusual format of the presentation of scientific and technical knowledge. At the exhibition of innovative projects, participants presented prototypes and serial samples of high-tech products of young inventors. Within the framework of the convention, StandUp Science "scientific battles" were held. The participants were faced with the task of presenting the essence of their project in a language understandable to a wide audience. All day at the convention site, the ArtNauka project surprised the participants with spectacular scientific experiments.

The culmination of the convention was the summing up of the All-Russian competition of youth innovative projects "Zvorykin Prize" in 2013. Out of 1,496 applications submitted for the competition in 2013, the expert council, based on the results of a multi-stage examination, identified five laureates in nominations reflecting the main trends of the modern technological world.

  • In the nomination "Biomedical technologies" – Lyudmila Belskaya, 30 years old, Omsk. The Test Lab project is a screening of socially significant diseases based on the composition of human saliva.
  • In the nomination "Information Technologies" – Alexander Khanin, 26 years old, Moscow. The ReAction project is a technology for contextual analysis and video search.
  • In the nomination "New materials" – Maria Rezvova, 23 years old, Kemerovo. The project "Expansion of the spectrum of action of ocular therapeutic ion-exchange lenses".
  • In the category "Instrument Engineering" – Vitaly Ponomarev, 25 years old, Moscow. The WayRay project is a holographic autonavigator using the principle of augmented reality.
  • In the nomination "Clean Technologies" – Anna Linnik, 24 years old, Kemerovo. The project "KeraTech – technology for obtaining high-protein feed additives from keratin-containing raw materials of poultry processing enterprises".
