Russia accounts for less than 0.1% of the turnover of the global biological market, and more than 80% is imported, this situation needs to be changed by increasing the production of biotechnological products at least 10 times, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

At the government meeting, the Prime Minister noted that according to experts' forecasts, the global biotechnology market will reach $ 2 trillion by 2025, now the relevant projects are invested in the United States, Europe, Japan, as well as in rapidly developing economies: China, India, Brazil.

"And we should not lag behind, especially since so far Russia accounts for less than 0.1% of the turnover of the global biological market. More than 80% of bio-products are imported. Our task is to change this situation," Medvedev said.

He stated the need to create conditions for the development of a powerful bioindustry sector in Russia, develop research and development in the field of bioenergy, biotechnologies, agro-food biotechnologies, as well as pay attention to improving the skills of engineering and technical personnel.

"The strategic goal of the roadmap is to reach the level of production of biotechnological products, which would be at least ten times higher than what we have today," the prime minister said.
