Siberian investments in Belgian innovations

Novosibirsk Nanocenter has invested in an international project

Nanocenter "SIGMA.Novosibirsk has invested 1 million euros in the Belgian company Pepric, which has developed an analytical complex for research in the field of regenerative medicine, tissue engineering structures, targeted drugs and cellular vaccines.

The latest equipment allows tracking the movement of therapeutic cellular substances and targeted particles inside the body, the complex has been successfully tested in large preclinical research centers in Europe and the USA.

In 2015, such an analytical complex will appear in Novosibirsk.

Pepric's unique technology allows for the development and testing of new generation regenerative medicine preparations – stem cell injections, cell vaccines, tissue engineering structures – to track the movement of cells marked with magnetic particles inside the body using a spectrometer. This makes it possible to conduct preclinical studies with the most accurate results and the minimum number of experimental animals.

Thus, the use of the Pepric spectrometer significantly reduces the time and cost of developing new types of treatment due to the high speed of research, the accuracy of the method, safety and the ability to record dynamic parameters. In Russia, the Pepric spectrometric complex will appear in 2015 in the Novosibirsk bioincubator. The potential market for applications of the method is rapidly developing, especially in the field of cancer treatment and diagnosis.

""SIGMA.Novosibirsk” provides the second round of investments for Pepric, a subsidiary of the leader of research in the field of nanoelectronics IMEC. We plan not only to finance the development, but also to organize an international reference center in Novosibirsk on the basis of our bioincubator. The tasks of such a center are to conduct research on new equipment, provide consulting services to medical and scientific personnel, and form feedback with developers. Novosibirsk has all the necessary conditions for this: serious scientific potential and a suitable partner – an Innovative medical technology Center, where it is planned to introduce the most modern methods of regenerative medicine," said the General director of the SIGMA nanocenter.Novosibirsk" Luisa Lesnaya.
"The developed Pepric spectrometer offers innovative solutions to developers of cell therapy. SIGMA's investments will allow us to further commercialize the project and bring Pepric to a new level of development," said Stephanie Toigel, CEO of Pepric, following the results of the transaction.

"It is important that we managed to become part of a company that carries out world-class technological development in such a promising direction as regenerative medicine. This is the first time that we participate in such a project on an equal footing. First of all, thanks to the help of our system partner – the world's leading nanoelectronics development center IMEC. I hope that such good luck will become regular for us, and we will be able to get access to other technologies we need to work on the Russian market. In fact, the model of our deal with Pepric is the most effective way to introduce new solutions and tools to the Russian market," said Ruslan Titov, Director of the Department of Nanotechnology Centers of the RUSNANO Foundation for Infrastructure and Educational Programs.
