An unknown buyer paid $2.9 million for a unique yellow diamond.

The famous Italian actress Gina Lollobrigida put the stone up for auction at Sotheby's auction house in Geneva. This is reported on the auction house's website.

The 74.53-carat diamond previously belonged to the last representative of the Qajar dynasty, Ahmad Shah, who ruled Persia from 1909 to 1925. Then he moved on to the famous Italian.

The gem set a record auction price for yellow diamonds – more than 40 thousand dollars per carat. Before the start of the auction, it was planned to get from 1.4 to 1.8 million dollars for this lot.

Lollobrigida earrings made of natural pearls were also sold at a record price – for $ 2.39 million.

Gina Lollobrigida decided to part with her jewelry in order to finance a project to create a clinic in Italy specializing in stem cell treatment.
