Stem Scandal

Contaminated stem cells have caused an outbreak of bacterial infections in three states

Pavel Kot, American News

Representatives of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – CDC) report a series of interrelated cases of infection with bacterial infections. It is known about 12 patients who were urgently hospitalized by doctors. Of these, three people spent more than a month in the hospital. Fortunately, no fatal cases were recorded.

The CDC management is confident that the spread of infections occurred through the products of a biotech company. Bce people infected with harmful bacteria received injections of stem cells (cord blood – VM). In this way they tried to get rid of back and joint pain.

The average age of patients is 74, which explains their health problems and attempts to resort to controversial methods of treatment.

Cases of the disease have been identified in the United States. These are Texac, Florida and Arizona. During the investigation, it turned out that the stem cells were infected with bacteria outside the clinics where they received injections.

A detailed analysis revealed traces of contamination in packaged vials belonging to the biotech company Liveuon, based in California (Liveuon itself is only a distributor of products manufactured by Genentech – VM).

As soon as the authorities identified the source of the infection, the supplier was forced to recall a large batch of its products.

The problem of the use of stem cells by Americans has been worrying CDC specialists for a long period of time.

This year, the agency issued a warning to Genetech Inc. Ee management warned that the firm has no right to sell stem cells without the approval of federal authorities.

In 2017, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced its intention to fight companies offering to treat arthritis, Alzheimer's disease and a large number of other ailments using the above–mentioned methods.
