Scientists have found a link between mustache and cancer

RIA News

American scientists have found a link between the presence of a mustache and a reduced risk of lower lip cancer, according to Medicalexpress (Mustaches are more than just manly, they guard against sun's rays).

Specialists from the University of Kansas examined 200 men whose doctors diagnosed a precancerous condition known as actinic keratosis. It is a scaly spot on the skin that can develop into squamous cell carcinoma.

The researchers found that among men who for a long time wore a mustache with a thickness of at least nine millimeters, the risk of developing cancer pathology was 16 times lower than that of other participants in the analysis. At the same time, scientists have previously taken into account additional risk factors, such as smoking or age indicators.

According to experts, men who do not have facial hair can reduce the risk of cancer by using sunscreen.
