Test strip for early diagnosis of stroke
An express test will allow you to recognize a stroke at the initial stage
Buryat scientists are developing an express test in the Skolkovo laboratory that allows diagnosing stroke and pre-stroke condition in humans (the project "Key biomarkers for assessing the risk of brain damage and express hemotests based on them" – VM).
Express diagnostics can be carried out at home: the new test is no more difficult to use than a pregnancy test or a blood sugar test. It's very easy to check the results – just one drop of blood is enough. The development is a strip on which a thin coating of gold nanoparticles is applied, when reacting with blood, they are colored in a certain color. The darker the color indicator on the strip, the more antibodies characteristic of stroke are present in the blood.
The know-how will allow diagnostics to be carried out in a matter of seconds. Now the degree of ischemic brain damage is assessed using a laboratory test, which often takes several days to conduct.
The test is suitable for self-use in order to consult a doctor with ready-made results. According to the developers, the know-how will be useful to ambulance staff and all medical institutions in order to exclude a stroke in case of numbness of the limbs, difficulty in speech and visual impairment.
