The Prime Minister visited the bio-business incubator

Dmitry Medvedev got acquainted with the developments of the MIPT BioBusiness Incubator

"Russian pharmacies"On March 26, 2013, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev visited the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), where he held a meeting on improving the activities of the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC), expert and dissertation councils, as well as the functioning of postgraduate and doctoral studies in Russian universities.

The meeting was attended by Dmitry Livanov, Minister of Science and Education of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Filippov, Chairman of the Higher Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, rectors of leading Russian universities, representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

During the visit, the Prime Minister got acquainted with the activities of the BioBusiness Incubator (BBI), a structural research unit of MIPT, which continued the formation of the Severny Biopharmaceutical Cluster (BFC Severny) within the framework of the Development Strategy of the Pharmaceutical industry of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2020.

Dmitry Medvedev was introduced to the laboratories of the BioBusiness Incubator, where real experiments in the development of medicines and medical devices are already being conducted under the leadership of leading world scientists, in particular, the center for the development of innovative medicines and translational research under the leadership of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry laureate Professor Barry Sharpless (Scripps Institute, California, USA).

In addition to research work and corporate developments implemented in biopharmaceutical startups, students of the Department of Innovative Pharmacy and Biotechnology of MIPT, specially created to train a new generation of highly professional leaders of the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries, are interning at BBI. Andrey Ivashchenko, head of the Department of Innovative Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology, told the head of the Government that new technologies introduced by MIPT scientists make it possible to determine an individual course of treatment for each patient with such serious diseases as diabetes, schizophrenia and oncology. "Currently, medicine has very rough standards for the use of medicines. Half of the funds that go to treatment are wasted. Hospitals cannot afford such complex equipment, and we are doing this work," Ivashchenko said.

Oleg Korzinov, Director of the BioBusiness Incubator and Executive Director of BFC Severny, presented to Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev a laboratory for the development of innovative medicines, where one of the basic research approaches is multiparametric screening of drug candidates on live models. Such testing allows testing potential drug candidates at once at the cellular level or at the level of whole organisms, which saves time and money on research, and this is the most important thing in the development of new drugs.

Graduate student of the Department of Innovative Pharmacy and Biotechnology at MIPT Evgeny Bondarenko spoke about the activities of the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Analytics, in which he performs a dissertation on the study of the effectiveness of therapeutic drug monitoring for the selection of individual dosages of drugs.
