The program "Molecular cell biology" extended life for another year
Researchers and directors of Institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences working on the program "Molecular Cell Biology", today received a letter from the Scientific Council of this program, which informs that on February 12, 2008, the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences finally decided on the list and amount of funding for its scientific programs.
The letter also states that the announcement of the 2008 contest will be posted on the official website of the program www.molbiol.edu.ru and published in the newspaper "Search" after the Scientific Council received the Resolution of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences "On the programs of fundamental Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences for 2008". The deadline for submitting applications is February 29, 2008 and March 17, 2008. The organizers of the program ask the strongest participants to submit applications by the end of February, so that then automatically, according to objective indicators, select the first layer of the winners of the competition (30-40% of the total number of grants). It is assumed that these colleagues will be part of the corps of experts for further work with applications in all areas of the Program.
A number of recent materials in Russian and foreign media were devoted to the history and problems of the ICD program, in particular, the article "How molecular cell Biology is being killed", which spoke about the uncertain situation around one of the most successful and transparent research projects of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to our experts, yesterday's decision of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences means the extension of the ICD program for another year, with funding slightly exceeding the volumes of previous years, i.e. taking into account inflation. However, they expressed concern that at the meeting of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the words were again heard that in 2009 it is necessary to start all scientific programs "from scratch" and scientists may again find themselves in a situation of uncertainty.
