The St. Petersburg IEM was restored

The Almaz Center in St. Petersburg has received a new testing ground for the development of biomedical science

The building was handed over to the Institute of Experimental Medicine in St. Petersburg on Saturday after the reconstruction carried out in it, an ITAR-TASS correspondent reported. The new building was inspected by the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Veronika Skvortsova.

The commissioning of the building, equipped with modern equipment, will allow conducting scientific research in the field of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery, hematology, endocrinology, neurology, molecular biology and genetics, cellular and nanotechnology using a wide range of modern experimental approaches, as well as training highly qualified scientific personnel in the field of biomedical technologies.

In particular, there is a laser scanning microscope worth $ 1 million, which will allow scientists to study nanoscale objects. "With its help, we will find out the ability of nanostructures to deliver drugs to the myocardium, which will help reduce mortality from coronary heart disease and tumor diseases," Mikhail Galagudza, director of the Institute of Experimental Medicine, told ITAR–TASS.

These nanostructures – silicon, silica, organosilicon and chitosan, created by scientists of the Institute together with chemists of the Chemical Faculty of St. Petersburg State University, combining with drugs, form a new dosage form.

The Institute of Experimental Medicine is part of the Almazov Federal Medical Research Center.
