Unhealthy Russia

Russia ranked 97th in Bloomberg Health ranking

ForbesBloomberg has published a rating of countries according to the health status of their residents.

In the health rating, Russia took 97th place out of 145 possible.

When compiling the rating, Bloomberg used a specially developed cumulative health index and a health risk index, which was subtracted from the first indicator.

When assessing the health status of residents of a particular country, criteria such as life expectancy and infant mortality, causes of mortality, mortality by various age groups and life expectancy of men and women after reaching 65 years were taken into account.

The risk factors reducing the health rating included, in particular, the proportion of smokers older than 15 years, the level of alcohol consumption per capita, the proportion of overweight and obese, the proportion of physically inactive population, the proportion of the population with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, high glucose, the proportion of HIV-infected, environmental situation, childhood diseases and maternal mortality.

According to the results of the study, Singapore became the country with the healthiest inhabitants, followed by Italy, Australia, Switzerland and Japan. The top ten also included Israel, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden and Germany. The UK took 21st place, the USA - 33rd. Of the former Soviet republics, Estonia was the highest – 57th place, Georgia was on the 77th place, Latvia on the 79th, Lithuania on the 81st. Tajikistan and Uzbekistan took 84th and 85th places respectively, Azerbaijan took 87th place, Belarus 91st. Russia took 97th place, next to East Timor, Madagascar, Iraq and Bangladesh.
