UV Mask

An electronic mask against coronavirus was tested at the Beloyarsk NPP

A group of inventors from the atomic city of Zarechny, Sverdlovsk Region, has come up with an electronic reusable mask that will protect doctors from coronavirus. Its work is based on the principle of ultraviolet radiation. The convenience of using innovative personal protective equipment has already been experienced by the staff of the Beloyarsk NPP health center.

The mask is a transparent shield that is worn as glasses. In the upper part of the product there is a compact ultraviolet emitter, which creates an invisible protection around the face from viruses transmitted by airborne droplets. Passing through ultraviolet irradiation, the RNA and DNA of viruses is destroyed, depriving them of the opportunity to reproduce. At the same time, the mask is safe for humans due to the transparent glass that does not let ultraviolet rays into the eyes and face.

"We have developed three models of this product: for ordinary citizens, for citizens who work with the population and for doctors who work in the "red zone" of infectious diseases departments. It provides 90% protection against infection and from infecting others. Conventional medical masks are much less effective," the developer said Sergey Glyadkov.

The inventor from Zarechny began developing an antiviral electronic mask several years ago, but then the size of the existing batteries did not allow making the device compact. Modern technologies make it possible for batteries with small sizes to work for 7-8 hours without recharging.

The effectiveness of the invention has already been confirmed by the FSAU "National Medical Research Center "Treatment and Rehabilitation Center" of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

"Directed ultraviolet radiation with a wavelength of 254 nm has bactericidal properties and is able to inactivate viruses. Masks with UFI can be recommended for use by medical personnel during work, as well as to all healthy people for the prevention of infection with viral and bacterial infections transmitted by airborne droplets," says Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the FSAU "NMIC LRC" of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Svetlana Khatkova.

The developer has already filed a patent for his invention and is now increasing production. He received orders for protective masks from Russia, Saudi Arabia, the United States and a number of other countries.
