Wine is given to us for joy

Moderate wine consumption reduces the risk of depression

Elena Subbotina, Rossiyskaya GazetaThis is not the first scientific work (Alfredo Gea et al., Alcohol intake, wine consumption and the development of depression:

the PREDICTED study // BMC Medicine 2013, in the public domain – VM), proving the beneficial effect of wine on health (of course, provided its moderate consumption). Previously, it was found that wine reduces the risk of heart disease, diabetes, colds, prevents the development of intestinal cancer, and also slows down the development of dementia. In addition, wine prevents the formation of gallstones and prolongs life, among other things.

Previous studies have noted that excessive wine consumption increases the risk of mental disorders, including depression. In the new work, Spanish researchers proved that if you drink wine, as they say, without fanaticism, then depression is not threatened.

For seven years, researchers from the University of Navarre conducted observations of 5,500 volunteers aged 55-80 years, moderately consuming wine. All participants have never suffered from depression and had no problems with alcohol.

Data analysis showed that the volunteers who consumed from 2 to 7 small glasses of wine per week had a reduced risk of depression by an average of 32 percent compared to the rest, writes RedOrbit (Drinking A Glass Of Wine Each Day Could Help Prevent Depression).

Scientists believe that the healing power of wine lies in the natural component resveratrol – it has a protective effect on certain parts of the brain. It has previously been proven that resveratrol is able to inhibit the growth of cancers, lowers blood pressure, protects against loss of muscle mass, lowers blood sugar levels and protects against the development of Alzheimer's disease.

Resveratrol is found not only in wine (in red on average 0.2-5.8 mg / l, in white the content is lower), but also in the peel of grapes and other fruits, in cocoa and nuts.
