On April 5, 2011, an open training in the format of a Round table on the topic "Transplantation in Ukraine: myths and reality" was held in Kiev, organized by the International Charitable Foundation (so in the text – VM :) "Likar.infond".

By explaining the medical aspects of transplantation, the role of this area of medicine in today's therapy of people with serious illnesses, the process of preparing the donor and the patient for surgery and the practical impossibility of conducting such operations in Ukraine in an illegal (clandestine) way was shown. In particular, the main existing myths about this type of medical intervention were analyzed in detail:

  • "people are being stolen to be "disassembled" into organs" – it is impossible;
  • "it is beneficial for doctors to push people for transplantation" – the need for surgery is confirmed by an independent commission;
  • "doctors themselves suggest illegal methods of surgery to patients – wrong;
  • "an organ donor becomes deeply disabled after surgery" – after 1-2 months, the donor fully returns to a full life;
  • "even after organ transplantation, the patient still cannot live fully" – the patient's quality of life improves several times;
  • "transplantation can affect only a few, it is not a problem for society" – many common diseases lead to the need for transplantation, including arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus and even flu complications.

There was also an analysis of the legal and social aspects of transplantation in Ukraine and the most problematic issues that hinder the development of the industry in our country.

In addition to the coach, the event was attended by the head of the Coordination Center for Organ, Cell and Tissue Transplantation of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine Ruslan Salyutin.
