Innovative remedies for wounds
According to the press service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a regular meeting of the Academy's Presidium was held at the Russian Academy of Sciences on February 10. The members of the Presidium heard the scientific report "Modern Chemistry: strategy of targeted creation of original medicines". Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nikolay Zefirov made a report. The report was devoted to the problem of creating innovative medicines in Russia. The fundamental foundations of the modern process of creating a drug as a process of interaction of mathematical chemistry, biology and organic chemistry were formulated.
In addition, the report showed the possibilities of creating innovative medicines in the timeline, which is associated with the interaction of all institutes of the chemical profile of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The development of this kind of medical chemistry involves the presence of an expert analysis of the competitiveness of developments available in chemical profile institutes, providing pre-screening of large arrays of structures using modern software tools, screening of compounds using high-performance systems, providing further preclinical testing of the most promising compounds-leaders.
As noted in the report, carrying out this kind of work requires the involvement of significant financial resources and specialists of various profiles and therefore can be most effectively implemented with the cooperation of a wide range of institutions working in the field of drug development. It was the need for such consolidation of activities in the direction of the creation of new medicines that served as the basis for the creation in 2005, with the approval of the OHNM Bureau, of the Non-Profit Partnership of Chemical Profile Institutes "Orchimed".
The tasks of "Orkhimed" include: the formation of focused libraries on biologically active compounds, the examination and selection of the most promising leading compounds for further transfer to preclinical testing, ensuring the functions of the licensee or agent in relations with companies - consumers of products.
A Collective Use Center for conducting preclinical trials of potential medicines has also been established by the TRUST, whose founders are NP "Orchimed" and MIPT (International Fund for Technology and Investment).
The task of the Trust is to conduct preclinical tests of drugs selected in the NP "Orchimed" on a gratuitous basis (with grants); conduct preclinical tests to non-academic organizations on a commercial basis; deduction of dividends received from commercial activities for the development of research within the founding institutions.
In addition, the report outlined the main achievements of the institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences of chemical profile in the implementation of the Program for the creation of innovative medicines in Russia.
The institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences have extensive experience and concrete results in the field of creating new competitive medicines. At the same time, further development of work in this direction, taking into account the tasks set by the leadership of the Russian Federation to create a wide range of original innovative drugs, requires urgent resolution of a number of issues.
In particular, the issues of forming a comprehensive target program for the creation of original domestic medicines, providing an information base for work in the field of drug creation, creating a comprehensive screening system for new substances (for example, in the form of a distributed Center for collective use) within the RAS, improving the base of preclinical tests at the level of GLP standards, creating a bank of genetically modified animals for modeling a wide range of diseases in order to develop on this basis a new generation of drugs acting on the pathogenesis of the disease.
The report also noted that it is necessary to seek legislative changes that secure the rights to dispose of IP for developer institutions.
