I don't like children, I like the process…

A person is characterized by sexual promiscuity

Dmitry Tselikov, CompulentaAt the TED2013 conference, American philosopher and psychologist Christopher Ryan, co-author of the acclaimed book "Sex at Dawn", again defended his own concept of the origin of human sexuality.

"Man is not descended from an ape," he told the stunned listeners. "We are the monkeys." According to him, we are closely related to chimpanzees and bonobos not only genetically, but also sexually. It is these monkeys that are widely known for their love of casual relationships and even homosexuality.

For every child born, there are about a thousand sexual contractions for the sake of pure pleasure. According to Mr. Ryan, this statistic is true not only for humans, but also for chimpanzees with bonobos. This is unusual for other primates: in gorillas, the ratio of sex to conception is somewhere 12 to 1.

This, the scientist claims, is one of the reasons why humans, chimpanzees and bonobos have relatively large external testicles. Comparing the testicles with a refrigerator full of beer, Mr. Ryan jokingly noted that we are always ready for a party with a lot of guests. In other words, the external testicles give us the opportunity for frequent and spontaneous ejaculation.

It follows from this that our sexuality is designed by evolution primarily to solve social problems, and the function of reproduction is secondary.

According to popular beliefs today, ancient men and women made a kind of deal: the former provide the latter with food and protection in exchange for sex. However, Mr. Ryan criticizes this concept in the tail and in the mane. Before the advent of agriculture, hunters and gatherers lived a desperately egalitarian society.

What, and sexual partners were common? Yes, says the specialist. Exclusivity in this matter arose later – after the Neolithic revolution, which led to the formation of a more complex attitude to the concept of property. But biologically we haven't changed at all. "The fact that you have decided to become a vegetarian, the smell of bacon will not become unpleasant," Mr. Ryan urges. From the fact that we live in a society organized according to the monogamous principle, it does not follow that monogamy is natural for our sexual nature. The fact that we want everyone in a row is completely normal.

In short, the scientist finished to loud applause, it's time to stop linking sexual desire with property rights. Stop thinking that men are from Mars and women are from Venus. We are all from Africa.

Prepared based on Ars Technica: Human sexuality is naturally promiscuous, primarily amorous.
