Iatrogenic impotence

Iatrogenia (Greek iatros-doctor + genes – generated, arising), causing harm to the patient's health as a result of certain erroneous actions of medical workers. More often, iatrogenia means undesirable changes in the patient's psyche. In the formation of mental (psychogenically conditioned) iatrogenia in addition to the careless, injuring statements of the doctor about the patient's state of health, certain character traits of the patient also play a role (uncertainty, a tendency to anxiety, increased attention to the slightest changes in well-being, emotional vulnerability, etc.), which predetermine an extremely neurotic attitude to any medical information received by him. Some experts believe that in such cases it is necessary to talk about pseudo-neurogenism, since it occurs not through the fault of the doctor, but rather due to the characteristics of the patient's character, which contribute to the formation of obsessive fears for their health without serious grounds.
The source of mental iatrogenies can also be improperly conducted medical education, publications of controversial concepts that have no scientific basis and data that do not correspond to reality.

Praemonitus praemunitus – he who is warned is armed (Lat). Do not take the note below seriously, and if you want to follow the link and pass an unproven test for erectile dysfunction, keep in mind: they forgot to attribute to the article in the Daily Mail (probably completely by accident) "On the rights of advertising, paid for by Pfizer" :)

Daily Mail has launched an online erectile dysfunction risk calculator

Copper newsThe Daily Mail newspaper has launched an online calculator on its website, with which readers of the publication can calculate for themselves the risk of erectile dysfunction (What's YOUR risk of impotence?

As our new calculator reveals, lifestyle can raise a man's chances of bedroom woes by 85%).

As you know, the factors that aggravate the likelihood of problems with erection include age over 40, smoking, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, impaired blood flow in the pelvic region, hypertension, operations on pelvic organs. The risk of erectile dysfunction is calculated based on the presence or absence of these factors in the life of a man answering the relevant questions.

At the same time, the average risk of a sexual function disorder for a 50-year-old man who lacks all negative factors except age is 7 percent. Accordingly, for a smoking man of the same age with high blood pressure, the risk of erectile dysfunction is 14 percent, that is, it doubles. And if diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular diseases are added to this, then the probability of sexual problems will increase almost eight times compared to a healthier person of the same age without bad habits.

According to statistics, about half of Britons aged 40 – 70 years, which is about 12 million people, constantly or from time to time suffer from erectile dysfunction. At the same time, about eight percent of men over the age of 20 and about 11 percent of those over 30 also face this problem. In this case, stress plays a key role.
