One hundred billion "lifting" for the Russian pharmaceutical industry

The financing of the pharmaceutical development program will amount to 100 billion rubles

RIA NewsMore than 100 billion rubles will be allocated for the development program of the Russian pharmaceutical industry until 2020, the share of domestic medicines will grow to 50%, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

"The goals are ambitious. They involve significant funds. Until 2020, this is more than 100 billion rubles," Medvedev said, speaking at a government meeting.

According to him, Russian medicines will have to occupy 50% of the market, and domestic medical products – 40%.

Medvedev noted that the state program for the development of the pharmaceutical industry for 2013-2020 provides for the creation of a modern competitive pharmaceutical and medical industry in Russia.

The Prime Minister recalled that the day before he visited a high-tech medical center for the treatment of cardiovascular pathologies in Kaliningrad.

"Everything is cool, everything is great, everything is amazing, everything is technologically done. One problem is that everything is foreign, down to the last nail," Medvedev said.

He also believes that biomedical technologies are able to move Russia along an innovative path.

"The state program should integrate all these areas into a single effective system, consolidate a single scientific and production infrastructure, create conditions for the inflow of foreign investment and, of course, ensure the application of international standards, including through the active use of technological platforms and medical and pharmaceutical innovation territorial clusters," Medvedev said.

He recalled that seven such clusters are already being formed.
