A criminal case has been opened against the American company USPLabs, which produces the Jack3d supplement popular among bodybuilders, for the illegal sale of products.

According to a US Department of Justice press release, USPLabs is accused of using Chinese synthetic stimulants to manufacture Jack3d and OxyElite Pro sports supplements, which were marketed as products made from natural ingredients.

Six top managers of USPLabs and S.K. Laboratories, which produced additives for USPLabs, have been charged. On Tuesday, November 17, four suspects were arrested, and law enforcement agencies plan to arrest the rest in the near future.

According to the charges brought against the suspects, at the end of 2013, several cases of liver damage related to the use of the supplement OxyElite Pro Advanced Formula were recorded. Some patients needed liver transplantation. Upon learning about this, USPLabs informed the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that it would stop selling the drug, but eventually made great efforts to sell off all available stocks of the drug.

The US Department of Justice announced large-scale inspections with the participation of several federal agencies. They are aimed at suppressing the illegal sale of food additives.

Every year, about 23 thousand Americans seek medical help due to the side effects of dietary supplements.
