Alcohol abuse is more dangerous for the female body than for the male

Anna Stavina, XX2 century, based on the materials of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center: Alcohol's Effect Can Be More Damaging to Women

A report prepared and published by Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center claims that alcohol consumption has different effects on the health of men and women. According to Laura Veach, head of the center's screening and advisory services, a number of studies have shown that some women who abuse alcohol can cause the same damage to their body in 4-5 years as men who drink for 20-25 years.

This difference, the report emphasizes, is due to the fact that "women simply do not metabolize alcohol the way men do."

"Apparently, this is due to the amount of fat and water, but we don't see the whole picture yet, because there are much fewer studies on the effects of alcohol on the female body," explains Hiv. "We know that alcohol persists in the liver of women longer than men. This may explain why a woman's body (and in particular, the liver) suffers from alcohol consumption to a greater extent than a man's body."

Female alcoholism, according to doctors, is also characterized by a relatively late onset and faster progress.

To reduce the risks, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center experts recommend that those who drink alcohol familiarize themselves with the concept of a "standard portion". According to experts of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism) USA, a "standard serving" is 5 ounces (0.15 liters) of wine, 12 ounces (0.35 liters) of beer or 1.5 ounces (0.045 liters) of strong alcohol. A regular bottle of wine contains 5 standard servings of this drink. Women are not recommended to drink more than 7 standard servings of alcohol per week.

It is considered "risky" to consume four or more servings of alcoholic beverages during the day. It takes about an hour for the liver to process one "dose" of alcohol.

The habit of counting and estimating the amount of alcohol, according to Hiv, can help women stay healthy to about the same extent as annual visits to a therapist or regular checks for skin cancer.

"Take a measuring cup and measure out four standard portions of wine to see what this volume looks like," Hiv recommends. "You may be surprised to find that such an amount of wine in a glass can be perceived completely differently, especially given that the shape and volume of glasses also differ.

This simple technique will help you keep track of how much alcohol you consume and not drink more than planned."
