About the recall of a probiotic product
due to the presence of a pathogenic fungus in it

RospotrebnadzorThe Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being informs that in the United States, a recall of the probiotic product Solgar ABC Dophilus® Powder has been initiated in connection with the registration in October of this year of a fatal outcome associated with the use of this product, since this product contains the fungus Rhizopus Oryzae, which causes mucoromycosis.

For reference: mucoromycosis (zygomycosis, phycomycosis) is a rare human disease caused by mold fungi, characterized by damage to the skin, damage to internal organs, which can lead to death.

This product has been distributed throughout the USA, as well as the UK and Israel. In addition, the product was available for purchase over the Internet.

Solgar ABC Dophilus® Powder is used as a probiotic supplement for adults and children, including premature babies.

According to the Register of Certificates of state Registration of the Eurasian Economic Commission, this probiotic supplement has not passed the procedure of state registration as a specialized food product for dietary therapeutic or baby food, in this regard, its turnover in the territory of the member states of the Customs Union is not allowed.

Rospotrebnadzor recommends refraining from purchasing, including via the Internet, and using the above products.

The situation remains under the control of the Federal Service for Supervision in the Field of Consumer Protection and Human Well-being.
