A new research center will open in St. Petersburg

AstraZeneca intends to open a center for bioinformatics and prognostic medicine in St. Petersburg

AstraZeneca has announced its plans to establish a center for bioinformatics and predictive medicine in St. Petersburg by the end of 2011, the company's press service said. This step, aimed at strengthening the company's investment presence in Russia, supports the Russian Government's policy of modernization and innovative development of the country's pharmaceutical industry.

Talented Russian scientists will be involved in the work of the new research center, which will be the first for AstraZeneca in Russia, the company said in a statement. Its activities will focus on the development of bioinformatics, data analysis methods and software and system support for more accurate prediction of the safety and effectiveness of innovative medicines. The center's employees will be approximately 30 people who will work in partnership with Russian companies and research institutes. This will be part of the agreement of intent for cooperation with St. Petersburg, which AstraZeneca plans to sign this week.

Recall that in April of this year, AstraZeneca began construction of its own plant in the Kaluga region to provide Russian patients with the company's innovative drugs produced in Russia. The volume of investments in this project will amount to $150 million. AstraZeneca has also concluded several partnership agreements with Russian development institutions, including the Skolkovo Innovation Center and the Russian Venture Company. The purpose of these agreements is to transfer the company's experience in the field of research and development through the implementation of joint infrastructure, educational and grant projects.

AstraZeneca's investments in AstraZeneca and manufacturing, together with investments in employee training and development and marketing opportunities, as well as an increase in the number of research institutions engaged in clinical research in the country, confirm the long-term plans of AstraZeneca in Russia. Over the next 5 years, the company is making a significant contribution to the country's economy in the amount of $ 1.2 billion.Portal "Eternal youth" http://vechnayamolodost.ru
