Another biomechanical arm model is ProDigits

Bionic fingers have gone on sale in the UKCopper news
The British company Touch Bionics, specializing in the development of high-tech prostheses, has released the ProDigits device for sale.

The bionic fingers of the prosthesis are capable of performing subtle, precise and diverse movements that maximally reproduce the functions of the fingers of the human hand.

As reported in the company's press release (Touch Bionics Unveils World's First Bionic Finger, Newswire, 08.12.2009), ProDigits is currently successfully used by several patients whose fingers are missing due to birth defects, injuries, amputations, and so on.

For the first time in many years, ProDigist testers were able to use a fountain pen, scissors, type on the keyboard, and even play computer games.

(On the company's website you can see a lot of photos and videos - VM.)

The size and shape of each ProDigits device is selected individually, depending on the size and shape of the injured limb of the patient.

Bionic prosthesis can be controlled in two ways. For patients who have at least one functioning finger, control is carried out by pressing the control panel located on the palm of their hand. If this is not possible, commands can be perceived by sensors that read the electrical activity of the muscles of the palm or forearm.

The estimated cost of one ProDigits prosthesis ranges from 35 to 45 thousand pounds (38.6-49.6 thousand dollars). According to the company's estimates, potential purchasers of the device are more than 50 thousand residents of the EU countries and more than 1.2 million people worldwide.
