Artificial liver – aaatstavit!

Shoigu refused bioengineered liver

Copper newsThe Ministry of Defense refused to create a bioengineered liver and canceled the relevant tender.

The relevant information is posted on the public procurement website. The reasons why the Ministry of Defense decided to abandon the competition are not specified in the order card.

It was planned that the agency would consider applications for participation in the competition for the development of bioengineered liver on March 15, 2013. Then the deadline for consideration of proposals was postponed: first on March 28, and then on April 4. Thus, none of the proposals of the Ministry of Defense had time to consider.

The competition for the creation of a bioengineered liver codenamed "Prometheus" appeared on the public procurement portal in mid-February. The Ministry of Defense proposed to develop a preliminary design and manufacture a prototype of an artificial liver by November 25, 2016, as well as to test it and prepare it for mass production.

According to the department's plans, the liver was to be produced from the stem cells of a patient who needed a transplant. It was assumed that the organ would function in the same way as its biological counterpart, including removing toxins and excess hormones from the body, regulating carbohydrate metabolism. The Ministry of Defense estimated the cost of developing the project at 518.5 million rubles.
