Badovtiratel – behind bars!

Irina Vlasova, GZT.RU

The director of the Avicenna pharmacy from the city of Goryachy Klyuch in the Krasnodar Territory will have to spend four years in custody. The drug police paid attention to the illegality of the trade in the biologically active supplement for weight loss "LIDA" in 2007. The supplement was not registered in Russia. But the pharmacy director continued to sell the dubious drug, despite the order to stop illegal activities. Each package of dietary supplements brought the director an income of 800 rubles. After another check, the pharmacy director paid a fine of 20 thousand rubles, but this did not stop the sale.

The composition of dietary supplements included a potent substance sibutramine. The drug police took a woman red-handed at the time of the implementation of the drug for weight loss. The charge was brought under two articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: article 234 ("Illegal trafficking of potent substances for sale") and Article 174 ("Legalization (laundering) of funds or other property acquired by other persons by criminal means").

Meanwhile, the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being has repeatedly warned the population that in the Russian Federation the number of appeals and complaints of citizens about fraud, unjustified prescribing of biologically active food additives by doctors instead of medicines, violation of the rules for the sale of dietary supplements (home delivery by courier, etc.) has sharply increased.

Sanitary services draw attention to the fact that the main violations in the production and turnover of dietary supplements are the sale of these additives (including in pharmacies) without accompanying documents – registration certificates and certificates of quality and safety, as well as the inconsistency of the information on the label agreed upon during registration with the requirements of current legislation.

According to the DSM Group, today the dietary supplements market in Russia accounts for about 5% of the total market of ready-made medicines ($ 11 billion), that is, it exceeds $ 500 million.
