The Skolkovo Foundation will allocate up to a billion rubles in 2011 to equip future collective use centers (CCPs) for biomedicine, a source in the fund told RIA Novosti on Monday.
"The equipment that we will purchase in the amount of one billion rubles, in agreement with the residents of the Skolkovo cluster of biological and medical technologies, will be used as the material and technical base of ten collective use centers, including on the basis of three regional pharmaceutical clusters," the agency interlocutor said.
Earlier, Roman Bolgarin, Director of development and business processes of the Biological and Medical Technologies cluster of the innocenter, told RIA Novosti that the plans of the biomedical cluster include the creation of a CCP on the basis of Russian universities. According to him, these centers will be created in such areas as preclinical research, trans– and postgenomic technologies, regenerative medicine, computer modeling of medicines, complex personalized therapy of autoimmune and cancer diseases.
The source also said that the Skolkovo Foundation will finance at least 20 biomedicine projects in 2012. In addition, he noted that the number of projects for 2011 "includes a project on the introduction of technology for the production of human lactoferrin – one of the proteins that plays a key role in maintaining the immunity of newborn children."
The head of the Biological and Medical Technologies cluster of the Foundation, Igor Goryanin, announced in April that the foundation is going to finance about 20 projects in the field of biomedicine in 2011, which will be selected in accordance with the program policy determined by the Ministry of Health and Social Development of Russia.
