Biomedicine 2016: Cell technologies in Russia
Expert: no one knows how the law "On Biomedical cell Products" will work

From June 27 to June 30, the forum "Biomedicine-2016" will be held at the Technopark of Novosibirsk Akademgorodok. Among the debatable issues are the prospects for the development of personalized and translational medicine in Russia, the creation of collections or biobanks of cellular models of hereditary human diseases and their use in interdisciplinary integration projects aimed at finding new ways of therapy.
"All these technologies are knocking on our door. But in Russia there are no mechanisms for the implementation of these scientific programs. New medical technologies are rapidly developing in Europe and the USA, our country is 15-20 years behind them. At the forum, we will talk about the revolutionary discoveries that have occurred over 16 years," said the head of the Laboratory of Epigenetics of Development of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics SB RAS, Head of the Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Medicine of the Novosibirsk Research Institute of Circulatory Pathology. Academician E.N. Meshalkina, Head of the Stem Cell Laboratory at the Institute of Chemical Biology and Fundamental Medicine SB RAS, Professor Suren Zakiyan.
On the first day of the forum, a round table dedicated to the law "On Biomedical Cell Products" will be held. "This law, which is very important for the scientific community, has been worked on for 10 years. Finally, we waited for its adoption. No one knows how it will work. At the round table, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valentin Viktorovich Vlasov, who was directly part of the group of scientists developing the bill, will discuss with the scientific community the basic principles of the law, its possibilities. A big discussion is planned," Suren Zakiyan said.
The forum participants plan to discuss the possibilities of joint application of new cellular technologies and genomic engineering in cardiology, neurology, oncology and other areas of practical medicine and the pharmaceutical industry.
