A woman who had her breasts removed due to an error in the analysis demands 800 thousand shekels from the hospital
According to the Mako website, due to an error made in the analysis of a genetic propensity to develop breast cancer, a patient of the Carmel Hospital in Haifa underwent breast removal surgery. After almost 15 years, it turned out that the operation was in vain.
The message of Channel 2 of ITV said that we are talking about a 60-year-old woman who 15 years ago made a genetic analysis that revealed a mutation of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. A similar mutation, noted in a news story, forced Angelina Jolie and thousands of other women to undergo a bilateral salpingo-ovarectomy.
Years after the operation, the woman had doubts about the correctness of the analysis obtained, since neither her sister nor her daughter had a gene mutation indicating a predisposition to breast cancer. Repeated analysis showed that an error had occurred and the breast removal operation was unnecessary.
Mako reports that the woman went to court, demanding that the Carmel Hospital pay her compensation in the amount of 800 thousand shekels.
