Organ transplantation of the deceased is unacceptable without the consent of relatives: survey

The concept of "organ donation" is familiar to 79% of Russian residents, 21% found it difficult to define it. 12% of respondents have erroneous ideas about organ transplantation. Such data were presented by the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM).

Organ transplantation after the death of a donor should be carried out only with the prior permission of the deceased – this is the opinion of 64% of Russian residents.

65% of citizens do not support the decision of the Constitutional Court of Russia, according to which it is legal to extract organs for transplantation from the bodies of the deceased without notifying relatives. 24% say that special consent of the patient is not necessary, and 29% agree with the court's decision.

The survey was conducted on April 2-3, 2016 in 130 localities in 46 regions, territories and republics and 9 federal districts of Russia. The sample size is 1600 people. The sample represents the population of the Russian Federation aged 18 years and older. The survey method is personal interviews at the respondent's place of residence.
