Domestic drugs: a sign of poor quality

60 percent of low-quality medicines are produced in Russia

Copper news

Last year, 1103 series of substandard drugs were withdrawn from circulation in Russia. This is 3.8 percent of all tested medicines, ITAR-TASS reports. Moreover, about 60 percent were medicines of domestic production, said the head of the Ministry of Health Veronika Skvortsova.

As a rule, the products of those "old productions that were not subject to modernization since Soviet times" turned out to be rejected, the minister said. According to her, since 2012, the Ministry of Health has been selectively checking 16 percent of medicines on the market – this is 25 thousand series of drugs from 230 thousand types of medicines in Russian pharmacies annually.

Skvortsova said that every federal district of Russia now has a laboratory complex where they can evaluate the quality of drugs. The Ministry of Health intends to create an inspectorate to check Russian and foreign industries that produce medicines in the country.

In addition, on July 15, the agency will publish an updated list of vital medicines. On this occasion, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said: "we need to be closer to life, think about the frequency of reviewing this list once a month, this is, of course, not serious, but it is necessary to find a middle ground."

It is reported that the updated list will include, for example, domestic analogues of foreign medicines that were once included in the already outdated list.
