Sweden was recognized as the most comfortable country for elderly people to live in. This follows from the Global AgeWatch Index rating, which was published by HelpAge International.

In total, HelpAge International assessed the lives of elderly people in 91 states.

The Global AgeWatch Index was formed on the basis of four criteria: financial security, health status, labor market and living conditions in general. In addition, factors such as GDP per capita, social benefits, civil liberties and so on were taken into account.

According to the NGO research, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, Switzerland, New Zealand, the USA, Iceland and Japan are in the top ten countries. Russia took the 78th place. The situation in the Russian Federation with pensioners turned out to be worse than in a number of African (South Africa, Ghana) and Asian (Indonesia, Mongolia, Nepal) countries.

In addition, the Russian Federation was overtaken by its closest neighbors: Georgia, Armenia, Tajikistan, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan.

Experts note that the population of Europe, including Russia and Ukraine, is rapidly aging. According to the calculations of the organization's employees, the share of pensioners in these countries will exceed 30 percent of the total number of citizens by 2050. At the same time, they claim that the money currently available to Western states will not help them solve demographic and economic problems in the future.
