Eye of the tooth

A blind man saw his wife for the first time after his tooth was turned into an eye
NEWSru.co.il 42-year-old construction worker Martin Jones went blind 12 years ago as a result of an explosion of a container with hot aluminum.

37% of Jones' skin suffered from burns. The man's left eye was completely burned, and doctors had to remove it. Doctors saved his right eye, but Jones could not see it.

A few days ago, surgeon Christopher Lee, president of the British Society for Refractive Surgery and consultant physician at the Eye Hospital in Sussex, performed a unique operation on Martin Jones, restoring his vision.

After an attempt to implant donor stem cells into the patient's eye failed, Christopher Louis tested a unique technology to restore vision. The operation was carried out in several stages. Initially, Jones had one of his teeth (fang) removed: doctors turned the tooth into a "stand" for special optical lenses.

Then the tooth was returned to its place and, within three months, overgrown with new tissues and "reunited" with blood vessels. And finally, the whole structure was carefully inserted into the patient's eyeball. After two weeks, the vision in the eye was almost completely restored.

4 years ago, Martin Jones got married, but he never saw his wife, because by the time of the wedding he had been blind for 8 years. When doctors removed the blindfold from Jones' eyes, he saw his wife, 50-year-old Jill, for the first time and found that "she is beautiful." The first car that Jones saw after his vision returned was a Smart car, writes the Telegraph. According to the man, he laughed for a long time when he saw "half a car on wheels."
