Frozen Law

Tests of artificial organs in Russia have been frozen for a year

Yaroslava Zamyslovatova, Federal News Agency

The creation of artificial organs in Russia is postponed. It turned out that the law "On Biomedical Cell Products" will not work from the new year. Russian doctors and scientists have been waiting for the entry into force of this law for a long time, having no legislative basis for the introduction of new developments into clinical practice.

According to sources in the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the first of the biomedical laws in the Russian Federation will work in full force only in 2018, but in order for this to happen, it is necessary to adopt almost 60 more regulations.

"We have been waiting for the law on cellular products for a very long time," she told the Izvestia newspaper Natalia Borovkova, Head of the Scientific Laboratory of Cell Transplantation and Immunotyping at the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine. According to her, the law should have been adopted back in 2002, but then only a temporary instruction for 10 years was developed, which allowed scientists to work in the field of cellular technologies.

Thus, the last four years of work in this area remain outside the law. "Now the use of such technologies is possible only within the framework of scientific developments. But this way we can help one or two patients, and what should the rest do?", the specialist complained.

According to the publication, now Russian doctors have developments that allow creating a bank of allogeneic skin preparations, in some cases restoring vision to blind patients, as well as treating Parkinson's disease, but clinical trials can be carried out after the creation of a legislative framework.
