80% of the surveyed US residents supported the introduction of mandatory labeling for "products with DNA content". A scientific paper about this appeared in the journal Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology Journal (McFadden, Lusk, What consumers don't know about genetically modified food, and how that affects beliefs) a brief retelling is provided by the website of the University of Florida (UF/IFAS study finds consumer knowledge gap on genetically modified food).

Scientists from the USA, led by Brandon R. McFadden, decided to find out how knowledgeable Americans are about biotechnology. The researchers interviewed about a thousand people over the Internet.

Biologists used the questionnaire, since it is the results of opinion polls that American politicians who oppose genetically modified products often use in their debates.

It turned out that 84% of respondents supported the introduction of mandatory labeling of genetically modified products. At the same time, 80% of all respondents also supported labeling food with DNA.

Such a result can be considered curious, because DNA is contained in almost all products and does not cause any harm. The researchers concluded that the respondents showed a low level of knowledge and misconceptions about food.
