Melanoma Diagnosis Day

In 2007, Russia, having received the official approval of Prof. A. Katsambas, President of the European Organization "Euro Melanoma", became the 20th country where the Melanoma Diagnosis Day is held. This project has enormous social significance, as the increase in the incidence of skin melanoma and mortality from this disease is steadily increasing. Every year, melanoma claims the lives of 37,000 people around the world, many of whom died due to late access to a specialist. But up to 90% of tragedies can be avoided if the disease is detected at its early stage. Therefore, the issue of early diagnosis of melanoma becomes particularly important.

In 2009, the Melanoma Diagnosis Day in Russia will be held for the 3rd time under the auspices of the "National Alliance of Dermatologists and Cosmetologists" with the participation of leading dermatologists of Russia. The project was approved by the head of the Federal Agency for Health and Social Development.

The Melanoma Diagnosis Day in Russia is being implemented with the support of the La Roche-Posay Pharmaceutical Laboratory. Within the framework of this project, dermatologists are trained in the skills of dermatoscopy of pigmented neoplasms (moles) – one of the most highly informative methods for diagnosing various skin lesions.

On May 18, 2009, residents of the 27 largest cities of the Russian Federation will be able to get a free consultation, as well as undergo a survey of pigmented formations on the skin, having previously registered by calling the Hotline 8 800 2000 345.

Details can be found on the website of the Melanoma Diagnosis Day.
