Mobile phones and brain cancer are an inexhaustible source of grants

For 10 years of research, scientists have not found evidence of the danger of mobile phones for the brain
ABC MagazineOver the past 10 years, cell phones have become an almost mandatory accessory for the vast majority of citizens.

And all these years, scientists around the world have been arguing endlessly about the safety of mobile phones for the human body. One of the loudest ideas of opponents of cell phones is an increase in the likelihood of developing brain cancer with frequent communication on a mobile phone. However, time is passing, and we can expect that some kind of evidence base should accumulate in 10 years. But no, and even, rather, on the contrary.

According to the results of a study by a group of scientists from the Danish Cancer Society led by Isabelle Deltour from the Institute of Cancer Epidemiology in Copenhagen (Time Trends in Brain Tumor Incident Rates in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden, 1974-2003 – Journal of the National Cancer Institute, December 3, 2009), no significant changes in the statistics on brain tumors over the years has not happened. The researchers analyzed the annual incidence rates for glioma and meningioma for citizens over 20 years of age from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. From 1974 to 2003, 60 thousand people were diagnosed with such diagnoses.

Over the analyzed 30 years, the incidence curve of glioma and meningioma demonstrated both stability, and decline, and growth – even before the advent of cell phones. Trends in the incidence of brain tumors remained stable from 1998 to 2003.

The authors correctly note that of course these data may indicate that, for example, the 5-10-year period is too small to detect any changes in the incidence statistics, and that the increase in the number of people with brain tumors is not yet pronounced, and that the researchers analyzed a very limited category of the population, and did not a larger sample of other types of brain tumors, and finally, that there is actually no risk with constant use of a mobile phone.

So research continues, as well as disputes between opponents and defenders of small, convenient and such necessary mobile phones.
