Non-allergenic poplars

Poplar without fluff was brought out in Kazakhstan

She spoke about her work at a press conference dedicated to the preparation for the International Specialized Exhibition EXPO in Astana in 2017 under the slogan "Future Energy".

On the eve of this event, the republic organized the "Online Expo-2017" competition for scientists, inventors and innovative entrepreneurs to select "green" innovations and projects to fill the exhibition. At the competition, high-tech and labor-intensive projects are presented together with simpler versions of developments, which, despite their accessibility and ease of execution, are very important for society. 450 applications have already been submitted here, including the know-how of Obodovskaya.

"At the moment, because of the fluff, poplars refuse to be planted or these trees are being cut down, which cannot be done, since poplar is the most resistant tree to atmospheric pollution. Poplar withstands high concentrations of car exhaust gases, industrial emissions. My poplar is no different from the usual one, but its benefits are even greater – it does not emit fluff," Obodovskaya said.

The biologist is convinced that there is no better tree for the city than a poplar. "Poplar emits 2-3 times more oxygen than oak, birch, pine or maple. One tree emits as much oxygen as 7 firs, 4 pines and 3 linden trees. 10 adult poplar specimens catch about 340 kg of dust during the summer. Poplar leaves actively absorb carbon dioxide, neutralizes chemical compounds," she informed.

Today, about 5 thousand experimental poplars bearing the name "Valentina" have already been planted in Kazakhstan. There is a whole alley, in particular, in Astana, on the territory of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School. "If the project is further supported, such poplars will appear in every city," the scientist assured.
