Prostate Cancer Vaccine

Prostate cancer vaccine to be tested in the UK

Medical news based on Oxford University materials: Prostate cancer vaccine trial seeks volunteers

Clinical trials of a prostate cancer vaccine have begun in Oxford. The vaccine has already been administered to four volunteers, and the organizers continue to recruit participants.

Freddie Hamdy and his colleagues plan to introduce a new drug to 48 men with a low or medium risk of developing this form of cancer – this will help test the safety of the vaccine and understand how the body reacts to its introduction.

The vaccine, capable of recognizing the 5T4 protein located on the surface of tumor cells, includes a modified MVA vector, as well as the adenovirus vector ChAdOx1.5T4. One of its components has already been tested on 500 cancer patients, and the other is being tested on humans for the first time.

The vaccine for the treatment of prostate cancer was developed on the basis of the modified Ankara vaccine virus (MVA) and the adenovirus vector ChAdOx1.5T4. According to scientists, thanks to the introduction of an experimental vaccine, the patient's immune cells will be able to recognize the surface tumor protein 5T4 and destroy cancer cells.

Scientists believe that the new vaccine will help stop the development of the disease in the early stages and prevent the progression of the tumor.
