Russia ordered to develop biotechnology

The vector of bioeconomics development in Russia is defined

On May 31 – June 1, 2012, the international Symposium "EU-Russia" was held in Moscow: cooperation in the field of biotechnology, agriculture, forestry and food in the 7th EU Framework Program".

The beginning of May was a turning point for the biotechnology industry in Russia: Prime Minister Vladimir Putin approved the draft of a Comprehensive program for the development of biotechnologies in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2020 – "BIO2020". Thus, the development of domestic biotechnology was given a new start at the state level.

The approval of the BIO2020 Program, as noted by European experts, marks a new stage in the economic development of the country and will contribute to the expansion of cooperation between the EU and Russia in the field of biotechnology.

The Symposium was attended by representatives of the legislative and executive authorities of the Russian Federation. Olga Vladimirovna Kochetkova, Head of the Innovation Development Department of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, stressed that at the moment measures of state support for biotechnologies are being actively developed, which will soon be specified within the framework of the upcoming state programs. We are talking about such instruments as direct financing, stimulating demand for biotechnological products, subsidies, etc.

As part of the discussion panels, the state of various segments of the biotechnology market in Russia was analyzed, vectors of possible strategic development were set, key projects and research directions were identified.

As a result of the Symposium, priority areas for mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and the EU in the field of bioeconomics development were identified.
