The State Duma has imposed a ban on the cultivation and breeding of GMOs in Russia

The State Duma adopted in the third reading a bill that prohibits the cultivation and breeding of genetically engineered plants and animals in Russia, with the exception of scientific work.

"It is prohibited to use for sowing (planting) seeds of plants whose genetic program has been modified using genetic engineering methods, containing genetically engineered material, the introduction of which cannot be the result of natural (natural) processes, except for sowing (planting) such seeds during examinations and research," the statement says. the bill.

According to the new rules, GMO importers are required to undergo registration procedures. The import of such products into the country will be prohibited after studying the impact on humans and the environment.

Violators of the new rules face administrative liability: officials will have to pay a fine from ten to 50 thousand, and legal entities – from one hundred to five hundred thousand rubles.
