"Scientists of the future": seven finalists of the competition

Intel and MSU announced the winners of the full-time stage of the "Scientists of the Future" competition

X-mediaAt the III All-Russian Science Festival, the results of the full-time stage of the fourth contest of scientific and technical works of schoolchildren "Scientists of the Future" were summed up.

The project is organized by Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and Intel Corporation with the support of the Directorate of the Science Festival. Its goal is to develop interest in the study of exact and natural sciences among schoolchildren.

This year, the competition received about 600 applications from students of grades 9-11 from public and private educational institutions of the CIS countries. More than 90 works from Ukraine, Kazakhstan and different regions of Russia were selected to participate in the face-to-face stage.

The students presented their scientific projects in seven categories: "Chemistry and Nanotechnology", "Physics", "Biology and Life Sciences", "Engineering and Engineering Sciences", "Earth Sciences", "Mathematics" and "Programming".

The expert jury, which included leading scientists, representatives of universities of the CIS countries and specialists of Intel Corporation, noted a particularly high quality level of work this year and identified the 30 best projects, the authors of which received the status of winners (1st place) and prize-winners of the competition.

The "Scientists of the Future" competition is the official stage of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, a prestigious international competition of scientific papers of schoolchildren held annually in the USA. In February 2014, Intel and MSU will name the best projects from among the winners and prize-winners of the "Scientists of the Future", whose authors will present their research at Intel ISEF 2014 in Los Angeles.

Winners of the full-time stage of the contest "Scientists of the Future":

  • Mozgunova Ekaterina, Maksimova Daria (Novosibirsk, Russia). Category "Chemistry and nanotechnology". The topic of the work: "Design and synthesis of a high-molecular microbicidal and antitumor drug based on urocanoic acid".
  • Provotorov Pavel (Chernogolovka, Russia). Category "Physics". The topic of the work: "Research and application of flare discharge. Spectroscopy".
  • Anastasia Korovyanskaya (Jubilee, Russia). Category "Engineering and Engineering sciences". The topic of the work: "Ultrasonic nozzle".
  • Vostroknutova Valeria (Moscow, Russia). Category "Earth Sciences". The topic of the work: "Express diagnostics of the state of soil microbial communities in case of contamination with petroleum products".
  • Maxim Galkov (Krasnoyarsk, Russia). Category "Biology and Life Sciences". The topic of the work: "The influence of the magnetic field on the sowing qualities of seeds and the development of seedlings of soft wheat (Triticum aestivum)".
  • Slavenko Matvey, Shevelina Ekaterina (Yekaterinburg, Russia). Category "Programming". Topic of the paper: "Algorithm of optimal arrangement of two arbitrary polygons".
  • Danila Baigushev (Moscow, Russia). Category "Mathematics". Topic of the paper: "Matrix generalizations of the Euler function".
