The discovery was taken for inspection

"Sensational" stem cell study recalled

BBCA Japanese scientist, whose recent research in the field of stem cell research was called revolutionary, announced the need to withdraw the results of his scientific research due to doubts about their accuracy.

In January, a report appeared about the discovery by scientists of the possibility of obtaining stem cells by immersing blood cells in acid. But then questions arose about what kind of photographs were used to illustrate the scientific research. Other scientific groups dealing with this problem have not been able to achieve similar results.

The author of the work Teruhiko Wakayama said: "It is no longer clear what is right."

Since stem cells can transform into cells of any other type, this ability has become the main focus of research in regenerative medicine. Scientists hope to use this technology in the future, among other things, to restore vision to the blind and normal cardiac activity to people who have suffered a heart attack.

The method described by scientists in the journal Nature has become a sensation all over the world. He was called a "serious scientific discovery." According to the study, stem cells could be obtained not only from embryos and through expensive laboratory manipulations. It was assumed that the immersion of blood cells in acid could give an impetus to their transformation into stem cells.

These studies have not been refuted, but have been seriously analyzed. Professor Wakayama said in an interview with Japanese television that during the study he was confident in the correctness of the results.

"However, many mistakes have surfaced now. I think it's better to withdraw the results of the work and then, using the right data and the right photos, prove once again that the conclusions are correct. If it turns out that a mistake has been made, we will need to establish why this happened," he said.
