Three-dimensional printing of the hip joint

Doctors with the help of a 3D printer returned the pensioner the ability to walk

"The Observer"Doctors in the UK have given a 71-year-old woman the opportunity to move independently by implanting a hip joint created using a 3D printer.

This is reported by ITAR-TASS with reference to the Sky News channel.

Before the titanium prosthesis was installed, the British woman had to undergo six unsuccessful operations. "The fact that I will be able to walk again is fantastic, I am absolutely happy," the patient said in an interview with the TV channel.

The transplant operation was performed at the Southampton Hospital in the south of the UK.The Belgian firm Mobilife was engaged in the production of the prosthesis, which was able to recreate the joint based on computer images of the patient's body.

According to surgeon Douglas Dunlop, who performed the operation, glue made from the patient's bone marrow stem cells was used to fix the joint. Doctors are sure that the joint will take root and the woman will no longer need help.
