RIA News

The method of influencing oncological diseases with the help of stem cells, being developed in Russia, should reach the stage of medical testing in the next 2-3 years, the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Veronika Skvortsova said on Thursday, April 2.

According to Skvortsova, Russian scientists are working on new methods of influencing the already formed oncological process with the help of stem cells.

"Stem cells in this case are used as so-called carriers, on which special targeted drugs are planted. Thus, there is no general intoxication of the body, as with chemotherapy currently, and with these stem cells that have receptors, we send drugs only to the cancer cell itself and destroy it, and the body as a whole does not suffer," Skvortsova explained to reporters.

She added that the method is currently at the stage of scientific research.

"We hope that in the near future – 2-3 years – (developments) will reach the stage of medical testing," the minister concluded.
