Will dietary supplements be kicked out of the media?

Deputy Anton Belyakov: "Dietary supplements can be advertised only in specialized media"
FarmvestnikA bill aimed at banning the advertising of dietary supplements on television, radio and in print media has been submitted to the State Duma.

The author of the bill – a deputy of the Fair Russia faction, the leader of the movement "Our project Health" Anton Belyakov proposes to advertise dietary supplements only in medical and pharmaceutical publications, as well as in venues of medical and pharmaceutical exhibitions, seminars, conferences. Relevant amendments are being made to Article 25 of the Federal Law "On Advertising". It is also proposed to impose restrictions on advertising in specialized publications. In particular, such advertising should not give the impression that dietary supplements have medicinal properties.

The dietary supplement market in Russia is growing rapidly. Currently, more than 6 thousand names of biologically active additives are in circulation in the country. At the same time, their quality often does not stand up to any criticism. The main danger of advertising supplements is that sellers position them as a medicine. "Scammers make money on the grief and credulity of citizens," the author of the bill notes.

The deputy is convinced that dietary supplements should be prescribed only by doctors, therefore advertising should be designed only for professionals.
