Vaccination with cans

Scientists have invented a new way to fight the coronavirus

About testing an unusual type of vaccination against COVID-19 writes New Scientist. So far, most of the experiments have been conducted on rats and ended with success: the number of antibodies produced by animals has increased 100 times. Scientist Hao Lin from Rutgers University in New Jersey decided to test the device for himself.

A device similar to medical banks (they are also called vacuum banks) was used. They are usually used in Chinese folk medicine and during different variations of massage. Such banks, thanks to the vacuum created inside, stick to the skin and, as is commonly believed, enhance lymph and blood circulation in the skin and deeper tissues and organs.

First, the vaccine was injected into the volunteer under the skin of the hand as usual. Then a device with a hole with a diameter of 6 mm was applied to the injection site for 30 seconds. "It does not hurt and leaves no traces," he says Hao Lin. According to the scientist, stretching and then relaxing the skin cells causes the cell membranes to pull inwards, absorbing the vaccine particles that were previously outside the cell.

It is known that the vaccine produced by the South Korean biotech firm GeneOne Life Science was injected. It is based on plasmid DNA, which produces the spike protein SARS-CoV-2 and triggers an immune response.

Experts have high hopes for the new method of vaccination, as it will actively develop the field of DNA vaccines. They are highly stable — they are not afraid of low and high temperatures and different humidity conditions, therefore, special refrigeration units are not required for their storage. Such vaccines in the future will be able to "simplify and reduce the cost of vaccination in developing countries," says Jonathan Singer, another specialist from Rutgers University.
