DAAD scholarships for scientists and university teachers

Grants 2014 (research scholarships) for young scientists

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) announces the acceptance of applications for a research scholarship program for young scientists.

The scholarship provides an opportunity for graduate students and young scientists from Russian universities and departments of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) to implement their own research project in one of the universities or research centers in Germany. In some cases, a scholarship may be provided for postgraduate studies at German universities and research centers (including within the framework of structured postgraduate programs) in order to defend a dissertation in Germany.

Depending on the research project and the applicant's work plan, the duration of the scholarship is usually from 1 to 10 months. A short-term scholarship (Forschungskurzstipendium) is provided for the implementation of research projects designed for a period of 1 to 6 months; the duration of the scholarship is determined by the selection committee. A long-term scholarship (Forschungslangstipendium) is provided for the implementation of research projects designed for a period of 7 to 10 months.

The opening of a short-term scholarship is possible no earlier than 01.07.2014. Scholarships lasting from 7 months and above are usually awarded from 01.10.2014. Short-term and long-term scholarships are not extended. The terms of the scholarship holder's stay in Germany approved by the commission are mandatory and cannot be changed later.

Scholarships for a full course of postgraduate study (Promotionsstipendium) are awarded by the selection committee only in exceptional cases, namely: if the topic of the dissertation is closely related to Germany, or if the direction of scientific research is such that they cannot be carried out in Russia. The duration of the scholarship for postgraduate studies at a German university can be three years. Initially, the scholarship is awarded for 10 months from 01.10.2014 to 31.07.2015. The decision to extend the scholarship at the request of the scholarship holder is made on the basis of an assessment of how successful his studies were during the first year.

Attention! Candidates of sciences who defended their dissertation in 2009 and 2010 can apply for participation in the competition for a short–term scholarship (1-6 months).
