Grants 2014-2015 (scholarships) for postgraduate studies in Germany

The Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology and the Friedrich Miescher Laboratory of the University of Tübingen (Germany) announce a competitive recruitment of German and foreign specialists for postgraduate studies (participation in the PhD program) in biology.

Young specialists under the age of 28 who have a master's degree (or its equivalent) are invited to participate in the competition. Applicants from non-European countries must submit the results of General GRE® – Graduate Record Examinations. Applications from persons with a bachelor's degree can be considered only in exceptional cases, subject to the highest academic results of applicants.

The training is conducted in two directions:

EDGE:

  • Evolutionary Biology
  • Developmental Biology
  • Genetics
  • Ecology

MCSB:

  • Molecular Biology
  • Cellular Biology
  • Structural Biology
  • Biochemistry

About 100 graduate students are recruited annually to study under the program.

The purpose of the program is to provide young scientists with the opportunity to complete a course of study at a high world level and to carry out research under the guidance of leading specialists.

The training program includes courses offered by the Max Planck Institute at the University of Tubingen, participation in seminars, presentation of research results at internal symposiums of the university. The language of instruction is English. The duration of the program is three years, with the possibility of extension, if necessary, for another year.

Participants of the program receive a scholarship. Funding is provided by Max-Planck-Society. Initially, the scholarship is allocated for two years, with a subsequent extension for one or two years. The monthly scholarship amount for graduate students is approximately 1,450€ per month.

Until September 15, 2013, the university accepts online applications for the program starting in July 2014.
