Postgraduate study in Jena in the field of life sciences

Grants for postgraduate studies (PhD) in Germany

The German research "umbrella" organization The Jena School for Microbial Communication (JSMC), created to unite scientists working on research projects in the field of natural sciences and "life sciences", announces a competitive recruitment for postgraduate studies (PhD) in the following scientific areas:

• Microbiology
• Immunology
• Biochemistry
• Earth Sciences
• Molecular ecology
• Bioinformatics /Systems Biology
• Organic Chemistry
• Medicine

Specialists with a Master's degree (or its equivalent) in natural sciences or "life sciences" are invited to participate in the competition.

The competition is open to applicants who plan to receive a diploma by the beginning of the program; highly motivated and interested to take part in interdisciplinary research projects of JSMC; creative, capable of independent work on a research project; able to work in a team of JSMC Community; with good knowledge of English.

Participants of the program will have the opportunity to work in a team of like-minded people, using the most modern research facilities, with the highest level of scientific leadership.

A scholarship is paid to the participants of the program for three years. Funding is provided by the DFG (German Research Foundation). In addition to the scholarship, research expenses are reimbursed.

To participate in the program, you must send a preliminary application ("expression of interest").

For applicants who do not need a visa, the deadline for submitting an application is April 16, 2012.

For applicants who need a visa, the deadline for sending a preliminary application is March 16, 2012.

Applications are filled out online on the JSMC website.

The candidates selected at the first stage will receive an offer to send a full package of documents (CV, letters of recommendation, etc.). After reviewing the documents, a telephone interview will be conducted, and finally, the candidates who have successfully been selected will be invited to JSMC for an organizational meeting.
